MediSieve Wins Investment Achievement Award at MedTech London Awards 2019
MediSieve has won the highly competitive award category of Investment Achievement at the the annual Mayor of London Awards.
LONDON – May 13, 2019 – MediSieve has won the highly competitive award category of Investment Achievement at the recent MedTech London Awards 2019, part of the annual Mayor of London Awards.
"We are delighted to have won this award, validating the fantastic year that MediSieve had in 2018," said CEO and founder of MediSieve, Dr George Frodsham. "There were a lot of very interesting and exciting companies who were finalists and winners of the awards this year, and it is great to be up there among them, showing how far we have come in a short space of time. A big thank you to SEHTA, MedCity and the Mayor of London."
The Awards Ceremony took place during the 2019 MedTech London Annual Conference on Tuesday 30th April 2019 at Hill Dickinson, The Broadgate Tower in London. "The Investment Achievement Award is in recognition of MediSieve receiving investment of £1.75M towards the start of 2018, and two grants from Innovate UK, worth around £1.56m, towards the end of the year" said Frodsham.
One large biomedical catalyst grant will progress development of a severe sepsis product, developing five magnetic particles to remove different sepsis targets. The second Scientific Research-Based Interventions (SRBI) grant, enables further focus on one of those particles and how it can be used to remove anti-microbial resistant (AMR) bacteria from a patient's bloodstream.
"These grants are of huge benefit to us and to patients suffering from sepsis. MediSieve will be able to accelerate its development and validation of more products to address the medical challenges posed by sepsis," said Frodsham.
The MedTech London Awards are part of the Mayor of London's annual MedTech Conference, and are organised by MedTech London, a business support initiative run by the South East Health Technologies Alliance (SEHTA) in collaboration with MedCity, funded by the Mayor of London.
Rajesh Agrawal, Deputy Mayor for Business, said: "London is home to some of the most innovative medical technology companies in the world. Not only do these businesses provide high-skilled jobs and boost our economy, they also develop lifesaving products. We know that our health service is under more and more pressure, so innovation and fresh thinking like this is vital"
Phil Jackson, Project Director at MedCity, who was part of the judging panel said: "These awards demonstrate the scale and range of MedTech companies in the capital, which form part of our world-leading life sciences sector. One thing that stood out to me is the collaboration across industry, academia, the NHS, and patients, which has made these the innovative, successful products they are"
"This Investment Achievement Award is a huge boost for the MediSieve team and reflects the amazing work the team carries out around the development of magnetic blood filtration products to successfully treat blood-borne diseases," said Frodsham.
About Magnetic Blood Filtration
MediSieve's Magnetic Blood Filtration Platform is intended to enable the rapid and specific depletion of specific agents from the bloodstream of patients. The extracorporeal therapy uses therapeutic Magnetic Beads that are designed to bind specifically to the clinical target. The Beads are introduced into the extracorporeal circuit during the therapy, mixing with the patient’s blood and binding to the clinical targets. The Delivery Platform captures all the Magnetic Beads and bound targets, preventing their return to the patient.
